AFGHANISTAN – A new social media account for a great cause. Actress Angelina Jolie created an Instagram account this Friday August for a very serious reason: to give visibility to the Afghan people. On her brand new account, the actress, special envoy of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), shared the letter from an Afghan teenage girl who shares her fear of the Taliban coming to power in her country . “At the moment, the Afghan people are losing their ability to communicate on social media and to express themselves freely. So I came to Instagram to share their stories and the voices of those around the world who are fighting for their basic human rights ”. “This is a letter sent to me by a teenage girl in Afghanistan,” she explains. In this handwritten letter, the young girl explains that before the arrival of the Taliban, she was going to study, she could go out. But everything changed with the withdrawal of American troops and the arrival of the insurgents within days. “We all had rights and we could all defend them freely. But when they arrived we were all scared of them and we think all our dreams are gone. We believe our rights have been violated. We cannot go out. Studying and working is out of reach. Some say that the Taliban have changed, but I don’t think so because they have a very bad past ”, we read. “We have all lost our freedom and are imprisoned again”, concludes the young girl somberly in her letter. Angelina Jolie “disgusted” “I was at the border with Afghanistan two weeks before 11 September, where I met Afghan refugees who had fled the Taliban. It was twenty years ago, ”says Angelina Jolie in the caption of these photos. “It is disgusting to see Afghans once again displaced because of the fear and uncertainty that has gripped their country.” “Like others who have made a commitment, I will not turn away. I will continue to look for ways to help. And I hope you will join me, ”she concludes. Also on HuffPost: A TV presenter recounts being prevented from working by the Taliban Source:
