How to ✓ (Check mark) with the keyboard

The Check mark, seen or palomita symbol (also known as pimp symbol, pimp or tick symbol) serves to make lists, mark surveys or leave as seen an element when we are working with text or data. This symbol does not come by default on the keyboard but we can invoke it with specific codes that will make us automate it. I propose several options to pdoer insert this symbol:

Insert check with Character Map in Windows 10

You can open the Windows 10 Character Map by going to the following path

  • Start
  • Program
  • Windows accessories
  • Character map

Now in Font select the type Bookshelf Symbol 7 and you will see the check at the end of the fourth row. Select it by pressing Ctrl + C and then paste it wherever you want with Ctrl + V.

How to ✓ with the keyboard

The procedure to achieve this is very simple, and you will not need your keyboard, since you only have to enter the “Symbols” section of your Excel and Word respectively, for this you only do the following:

  • Log in to Excel.
  • Once you are inside it, you have to click on the “Insert” section. which appears above next to “Home”.
  • Then you have to go to the last section of this, which is called “Symbols” and click on a button that appears there that has the same name.
  • Then you will be shown a box, in which you have to go up where it says “Source” and choose the description “Bookshelf Symbol 7″”
  • Before this you will be taken to a subsection of the list, here you have to go down until you find the icon you want (in this case the one with the little dove) and click on “Insert”.

Now in case you want to do it in Word, you have to execute the same procedure, only when you click on “Symbols “you must press on the alternative of” More symbols” that will appear there.

After that you will be shown the same box where you must choose the popcorn, and you will only have to click on “Insert” to place it inside your document.

Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Option one

  1. Open the Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint application.
  2. Click the Insert tab in the Ribbon at the top.
  3. In the Symbols section on the far right side of the Insert tab, click the Symbols icon.
  4. If using Microsoft Word, in the Symbols pop-up menu, click the More Symbols… option. If using Microsoft Excel or PowerPoint, skip to the next step.
  5. In the Symbols window, click the Font drop-down list and select the Wingdings font.
  6. Below the Font list is the Wingdings symbols that can be inserted. Scroll to the bottom of the list of symbols and select the check mark symbol in the last row of symbols.
  7. Click the Insert button to insert the check mark into the document.

Option two

  1. Open the Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint application.
  2. On the Home tab, in the Font section, click the Font drop-down list and select the Wingdings font.
  3. Create a check mark symbol by pressing Alt and typing 0252 using the numeric keypad on the right side of the keyboard while still pressing Alt.
  4. After creating the check mark symbol, change the font back to the desired font for text in the document.

Microsoft Notepad

You can create a check mark in Notepad by inserting the ASCII character check mark by following the steps below.

  1. Open Microsoft Notepad.
  2. In Notepad hold down the Alt and on the number pad type 251 and then let go of the Alt key.

Other Microsoft Windows programs

On Microsoft Windows computers and most Windows programs, you can add a check mark using the Charmap (Character Map) utility. Below are the steps on how to add a check to most Microsoft programs using Charmap.

  1. Open the Microsoft program and Charmap.
  2. In the Character Map window, select Wingdings as the font.
  3. Scroll down until you see the check mark (character code: 0x6FC).
  4. Click the check mark and then click the Select button.
  5. Once the check mark is entered into the characters to copy text box, click the Copy button.
  6. Switch back to the Microsoft program and then paste the checkbox into the document.

HTML web page

In the web page’s HTML source code, add one of the following extended special codes depending on the type of check mark you want to insert.

  • ☑ – inserts the ” ☑ ” symbol.
  • ✓ – adds the ” ✓ ” symbol.
  • ✔ – inserts the ” ✔ ” symbol.
