Razer claims the BlackShark V2 Pro battery will last up to 24 hours on a single charge, and we found that largely to be true. In our testing, the headset lasted 24 hours, 40 minutes on a single charge at a consistent output of ~75dB. Listening at a quieter volume than that will likely net you even better performance, and Synapse also offers a sleep mode feature that will shut the headset off after a period of inactivity. Over 24 hours is already a great result, but you may well find it lasting longer than that.

The test of the Razer Blackshark V2 Pro shows that not much has changed compared to the wired version – which is basically very good. But for the wireless connection, the manufacturer asks princely to the cash.

TEST CONCLUSION: Razer Blackshark V2 Pro

Like the wired version, the Razer Blackshark V2 Pro impressed in the test with a high level of comfort, great sound and THX Spatial Audio: a surround technology that impresses. But the Pro version can be used even more flexibly thanks to the latency-free, wireless connection. Razer can pay for this luxury at around 200 euros, the cable version currently only costs around US$179.99. In our opinion, this is too high a surcharge despite the good performance.

+ very high wearing comfort
+ great sound for a gaming headset
+ stable, fast wireless connection
+ THX Spatial Audio can convince

– Surcharge too high compared to the wired variant

Furthermore, 50 millimeter drivers provide the sound in the Razer Blackshark V2 Pro, and Razer does not even save the 3.5 millimeter jack. The manufacturer also supplies a corresponding cable. What is really new, however, is the integrated wireless connection, which uses the in-house hyperspeed technology and transmits in the 2.4 GHz network. The prerequisite for this is that you connect the supplied dongle to the PC. As with the other wireless products from the manufacturer, no delays can be detected in wireless operation and we could not detect any disconnections. That should be the case, because Razer is also clearly marketing the gaming headset to e-athletes.

According to Razer, the battery life is 24 hours, an energy-saving mode deactivates the headset after a selectable time if it is not used. A small LED next to the micro-USB connection is also the indicator for the current battery level and flashes from certain limit values, for example going through in red when only 30 percent of the battery is left. If you want the exact charge level, you have to take a look at the Synapse 3 software. In our tests, we actually came close to the specified battery life. That’s not bad, but there are models that last much longer.

Realistic surround sound thanks to THX Spatial Audio

Another highlight of the Razer Blackshark V2 Pro is the implementation of THX Spatial Audio. The surround sound is realistic and allows for a fairly precise localization of noise sources. Razer only has to offer a corresponding profile for the respective game – currently there are only 18 titles. There is also an upmixing of stereo sound, but this does not reach the sound profiles offered. If you still want to fine-tune something, you can do so thanks to an equalizer and calibration.
