SAMSUNG Galaxy S20 DEALS
With the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, Samsung operates fan service and is responding to buyers’ requests for changes to the 2021 flagship Samsung Galaxy S20. Larger display, more battery power and a new camera at an entry-level price – does it live up to the demands of the Galaxy S20 series?
In the spring of 2021, a jolt went through the Samsung community. Until now, Qualcomm’s high-quality Snapdragon chipsets have been used almost only in US models. All other countries have had to make do with Samsung’s Exynos 990 chip, which is lagging behind its United States counterpart in terms of both performance and energy consumption. With a petition in the spring of 2021, a Samsung user tried to achieve a rethink in the chip policy and against the treatment as a “second-class user” at the South Korean manufacturer – with success.

Whether you’re using a smartphone to take pictures or mainly on social platforms, these and many other features are possible with Samsung Galaxy S20 FE’s S20 technology. Available in many cool colours, the S20 also offers a great view on the Infinity-O display: At 16.40 cm / 6.5″ the FHD Infinity-O display is almost borderless and has a tiny camera recess. This makes games, streaming and video chats much more fun.
Photos like a pro
No more filters for fantastic images: Thanks to the three cameras on the back, you can take a high-profile shot without having to apply a filter. The wide-angle camera captures wide scenes, the ultra-wide angle camera additionally enlarges the shooting field. And you want to take macro shots: With the 3x Optical Zoom of the Telefoto camera, you can capture even the smallest details sharply. Even in the dark, you take clear night shots.
Persistent battery and large storage
Thanks to the 4,500 mAh battery, you can power your smartphone all day long without worrying about a power outlet to charge. The smart battery cleverly manages your smartphone’s energy reserve. There are hardly any limits to your storage space. The built-in storage of 128 GB can be extended with a microSD card of up to 1 TB.
- strong price/performance
- fast processor (also with the Exynos version)
- NFC, QI Charging, IP68 Protection Class
- very good display

With a size of 159.8 x 74.5 x 8.4 millimeters, the Samsung S20 FE weighs 190 grams. So it is not exactly a lightweight, but not the heaviest of his guild. The processing leaves a ambivalent impression. The joint between the front and back is clearly noticeable on both the left and right sides of the S20 FE when you drive your finger over it. The volume knob and the power switch on the right side, on the other hand, convince with good stroke and impeccable guidance. The workmanship of the matt lacquered back leaves a positive impression. However, you can already see fingerprints and small scratches after a short use, which is why a mobile phone case is useful for protection against traces of use. This is not included. The vertically positioned camera module is well fitted and barely stands out with one millimeter.
The front camera is housed in a punchhole note at the top of the display and fits harmoniously into the overall image of the front. The frames around the screen are suitably thin in price.
The S20 FE is based on the Galaxy S20 in terms of camera setup, but makes compromises on paper. Like the S20, the FE has a main and wide-angle camera with 12 megapixel image resolution each, but the image resolution of the telephoto lens has been reduced from 64 to 8 megapixels with 3x magnification.
In addition, the depth sensor was dispensed with as the fourth camera. The lenses on the back are now arranged vertically as a triple camera. Samsung upgraded the front camera from 10 megapixels to 32 megapixels.
As with the other S20 models, the S20 FE uses an Exynos 990 (S5E9830) with a clock frequency of up to 2.73 GHz. In terms of memory, however, Samsung is making a cut compared to the S20. If the S20 has 8 Gb of RAM and the 5G version even has 12 GByte of RAM installed, the S20 FE with 128 GByte of memory is “only” 6 Gb of RAM, while the version with 256 GByte of memory has 8 GByte of RAM. However, the memory in the S20 FE is perfectly sufficient in everyday life and there should be no restrictions on memory-intensive applications such as video and image editing as well as gaming during regular use. Not only in memory there are variations in the respective models, there are also differences in the processor. For example, the 5G version has a Snapdragon 865 that is faster than the Exynos 990 processor in the S20 FE and consumes less power. That’s exactly what fans had called for in their petition. In the benchmark PCMark Work 2.0, the S20 FE achieves a performance score of around 9900 points, compared to 18942 points in the storage score. In the new 3DMark Wildlife benchmark, it scores around 2170 points, with an average repetition rate of 13 FPS. In terms of performance and storage score, the S20 FE is in the upper range of its price range, only the 3D benchmark is somewhat narrow-breasted. In everyday life, however, you don’t notice any of this.
The S20 FE is optionally available with 128 and 256 GByte of internal memory, but can be additionally extended by a TByte memory via Micro-SD. However, due to the hybrid SIM slot, you have to decide whether you want to use another nano SIM or a micro SD in addition to the slot for a nano SIM. A dedicated dual SIM slot would have been better, where you could have used two nano SIMs and a micro SD at the same time.
The stereo speakers convince with pleasant sound, which does not clatter even at the highest volume. At the bottom of the display is a built-in fingerprint scanner, the fingerprint is reliably and quickly detected. The S20 FE also has the new Wifi 6 standard and IP68 certification.
The S20 FE Android 11 is used as the operating system together with Samsung’s user interface One 2.5, which convinces with a clear design and has helpful apps such as Samsung Health, Find My Mobile and Samsung Cloud in the software offering. The security update is up-to-date as of February 1, 2021.
The battery capacity is 4,500 mAh, which means Samsung has increased the battery by 500 mAh compared to the S20. According to PCMark’s battery test, our Test device of the S20 FE with Exynos chipset manages about 10.5 to 11 hours at a standard refresh rate of 60 Hertz under continuous load. That is a good value. With a screen refresh rate of 120 Hertz, the power is lower at 8 to 8.5 hours as expected, but can still be seen. The 5G version with Snapdragon chipset achieves a performance time of 11 hours with 120 Hertz, according to other media. This is a clear plus, but it is priced. On the positive side is the fast charging function, which allows the battery to charge more than 50 percent within 30 minutes. In addition to the included 25-watt power supply, the S20 FE can be charged via Fast Wireless Charging 2.0.
The S20 FE with 128 GB of storage is available in the colors Cloud Navy, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Red, Cloud Orange and Cloud White and has a street price of $454.87. With 256 Gb of memory, it is available from $550. The 5G version is available with 128 GByte from 610 euro and with 256 GByte from 750 $.
The S20 FE is the cheapest version of the S20 series and is suitable for beginners in Samsung’s flagship class. They don’t even have to make a lot of concessions. Thus, the computing power convinces and the camera shines in combination with the excellent screen. The workmanship with the noticeable joints somewhat tarnishes the positive impression.
The 5G version has more power and longer battery life due to the Snapdragon chipset, but this increase in efficiency costs at least 100 euros – this is the customer’s decision. Nevertheless, with the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE you get a well-equipped smartphone at a fair price, which is well prepared for the future.
Summary If you’re a social media freak, a photography enthusiast, and a gaming geek, and are looking for a device that can help you click amazing photos and play games, then the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is for you. Capture picturesque images of landscapes or mountains and even amazing close-up shots as this smartphone comes with a triple-rear-camera setup (12 MP Ultra Wide Camera, 12 MP Wide-angle Camera, and 8 MP Telephoto Camera). You can capture stunning selfies on this phone, thanks to the 32 MP front camera. To top it off, this smartphone offers an inbuilt storage capacity of up to 128 GB, enabling you to store a plethora of photos, games, videos, and more.
