Samsung Galaxy S21 5G smartphone 15.75 cm (6.2 inches) Reviews

Samsung Galaxy S21 DEALS

With the S21 series, Samsung put the cards on the flagship table very early this year. As it should be for a high-end smartphone, the features are more than promising: OLED display with 2,400 x 1,080 pixels and 120 Hertz, triple camera with 64 megapixel main lens and 5G support, to name a few. Whether the overall package is also convincing, we will clarify in the test.

Good The Galaxy S21 runs with the same fast Exynos processor as the top model S21 Ultra, comes up with modern 5G technology and takes amazingly good zoom shots even without optical telephoto, even if only at lower magnification levels.

Product details

Coming from a Oneplus 7, this feels like an amazing phone. It is very compact, sleek and lightweight and rarely fatigues my hand with long time usage. The Dynamic Amoled 2x 120Hz screen has excellent color reproduction and great for media consumption. The camera is very good. I am not a heavy gamer and the phone has no issues with the few games I play. The phone doesnt overheat during charging or continuous operation. With my usage I am getting around 5-6 hours of screen on time which is decent for 4000mAh battery.

The only con I can think of is the Exynos 2100 instead of SD 888. Samsung has made some big improvements this time around and based on benchmarks the performance should be between Snapdragon 865+ and Snapgragon 888. But only time will tell how the exynos performs in the long run. Also, there is no MST in Samsung Pay. But this may or may not be a con for you as nowadays people mostly use Gpay or other upi based apps.

Samsung Galaxy S21 is breaking new ground with the Samsung S21 compared to its predecessors and at least hits our tastes in the black. This is primarily due to the visually appealing camera unit, which flows smoothly into the frame. This is only gimmick, but also gives the smartphone elegance. Although the triple camera is minimally separated from the rest of the housing, this is to be pained. Our Phantom Violet colour variant is quite eye-catching with the rose gold frame, if you prefer a little more reserved, choose Phantom White or Phantom Gray. In addition, the smartphone is still available in Phantom Pink, here should be something for most tastes.

Opinion It is part of Samsung’s smartphone philosophy to offer every user the device that is exactly right for them. It is no different with the Samsung Galaxy S21 series.

With dimensions of just under 71 millimeters in width, 152 millimeters in height and about 8 millimeters in depth, the Samsung Galaxy S21 is quite compact despite its lavish 6.2-inch display, which is due to the excellent screen-to-body ratio. The screen covers almost the entire front, the frame is the most pronounced with just under 3 millimeters at the bottom. On the left and right we measure just 2 millimeters at the top – excellent. As a result, the smartphone has more than earned the predicate full-view display. The front camera sits in a light in the upper edge of the display and therefore hardly needs any space.

We also have virtually nothing to do with the processing. Our only mini-criticism: The edges of the camera case are a little too sharp. Despite the plastic back, the Samsung Galaxy S21 convinces apart by an excellent quality. The aluminium frame passes neatly into the other components, here we do not feel the hint of a ridge. We also do not discover gap dimensions. The smartphone is also nicely stable and cannot bend even under pressure. The user does not have to be afraid of damage if he carries it in his pocket. The IP68 certification not only certifies dust protection, but also survives 30 minutes in the water up to a depth of 1.5 meters.

Samsung uses an AMOLED display with a diagonal of 6.2 inches. In contrast to the direct predecessor, the resolution is slightly lower, but in practice this is no longer significant. While the S20 was 3,200 x 1,440 pixels (Quad-HD+), the screen of the Samsung Galaxy S21 now resolves with 2,400 x 1,080 pixels in full HD+ quality. Nevertheless, the result is a convincing pixel density of 421 pixels per inch, which ensures a very sharp display. Even with the magnifying glass, we do not detect individual pixels or step formation.

Thanks to a refresh rate of 120 Hertz, the Samsung Galaxy S21 scores with an extremely fluid display. The smartphone automatically adjusts the value and adjusts it down to up to 48 Hertz for static content, which, among other things, already affects the battery – an intelligent system that works wonderfully in practice. When scrolling through the menus, the refresh rate is fixed to 120 Hertz.

User Reviews Best product ever, if you are confused about S21 S21+ or ultra, thats only budget constrsint. I guarantee this phone has best camera, I will here attach some pictures taken by it.. Display is awesome, design is sleek and light weight. It keeps you apart from the crowd.

The display is completely flat, the curved design is reserved for the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. This is certainly a matter of taste, but many users prefer the flat construction, as it is not so susceptible to reflections and mis-inputs. The brightness is very high with a maximum of 1,300 nits. This means that reading in sunlight does not cause any problems. Especially since the smartphone still has a boost in particularly bright environments. The colour representation is strong and very high-contrast. If you prefer a little more discreet, simply make the corresponding settings in the menu. We also have nothing to do with the stability of the perspective. Even from an unfavorable viewing angle, the colors are preserved and the display is still bright enough to be able to recognize all contents without any problems.

Samsung uses an in-house processor, as it did with the S20 Ultra. The eight-core processor Exynos 2100 consists of three units. The main cluster Cortex X1 clocks at a maximum of 2.9 gigahertz. In addition, there are three Cortex-A78 cores with a maximum clock rate of 2.8 gigahertz and four energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.2 gigahertz. Combined with 8 gigahertz memory, the Samsung Galaxy S21 delivers more than convincing performance. The smartphone masters everyday tasks with flying colours, as confirmed by the Work 2.0 performance test of PC-Mark for Android with a remarkable 13,521 points. Applications start very fast, loading times are kept to a minimum and excessive multitasking is no problem.

Gamers also enjoy the Samsung. In 3DMark’s challenging wild-life benchmark, the Samsung Galaxy S21 secures 5,931 points, ahead of most other smartphones on the market. This means that even graphically demanding games such as Asphalt 9 Legends run smoothly in the highest resolution. The internal memory is 128 or 256 gigabytes, depending on the equipment variant. If you install many applications and take videos and photos excessively, you should choose the second variant, because a MicroSD memory slot for expansion is not available.

Operating system and operation

Android is available in the current version 11. Screen: Samsung promises at least three more Android updates, so the Samsung Galaxy S21 will also get Android 14 and is thus well prepared for the future. If the device should still be too expensive, you can also wait a little longer and still get a current product – excellent. The menus are overall logically structured and all settings are quickly found. The navigation also works wonderfully smooth and catchy thanks to the 120 Hertz. Even those who use a Samsung smartphone for the first time can easily cope after a short acclimatization. The manufacturer uses the in-house OneUI in version 3.1 as the user interface. This is characterized by the excellent changeability. In this way, the user can design the smartphone according to his wishes – for example, through a variety of (partially paid) themes or through an always-on display.

Samsung Galaxy s21

The user interface is very clear and catchy.

The power button is just as much on the right side of the smartphone as the sound and quiet rocker. Thanks to the compact dimensions, both controls can be easily reached. The buttons are perfectly integrated into the frame, there is not even a small gap. Accordingly, the buttons do not wobble. We rarely see this in perfection. In addition, the buttons have a pleasant pressure point and react precisely. A longer press on the power button does not shut down the smartphone, but activates the integrated voice assistant Bixby. If you want to turn off or restart the phone completely, you have to go to the quick menu at the top of the display by default. However, if you want, you can change this in the settings and shut down the smartphone in the classic way. A quick press on the power button switches the phone to standby mode. In addition to Bixby, the Google Assistant is also on board. A longer press on the virtual home button at the bottom of the screen starts it.

Samsung Galaxy S21

Thanks to the rather compact dimensions of the smartphone, the buttons can be easily reached.

The smartphone is well in the hand, which is mainly due to the rather compact dimensions, the rounded edges and the grippy back. The possibility to reduce the screen for better one-handed operation is available, but not absolutely necessary. Even with smaller hands, all areas are easily accessible. As with the rest of the operation, we find the classic key operation more pleasant compared to gesture control. The fingerprint sensor is located on the display and reacts quickly. The latter also applies to 3D facial recognition.

As mentioned earlier, the Samsung Galaxy S21 has a triple camera. This consists of a 64-megapixel wide-angle main camera (aperture f2.0), another 12-megapixel wide-angle lens (aperture f1.8) and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera (aperture f2.2). Due to the high resolution of the main camera, the smartphone also offers a 3x optical zoom. The 10-megapixel front camera with f2.2 aperture is ideal for selfies.

The image quality convinces on the whole line. In good lighting conditions, the shots score with a very fine detail drawing and a natural colour reproduction. Another highlight is the contrast range. Light sources are beautifully crisp and do not radiate excessively into the rest of the motif. But even in worse light, the S21 still gets a lot out of the pictures. They still remain quite bright and also show many details. The latter also applies to optical zoom. Despite magnification, subtleties do not go under – excellent. If you want to use motifs further, use the 30-fold digital zoom, but then have to live quickly with a loss of quality.

The S21 also has a lot to offer in terms of video functions. On request, the user even films in 8K quality, but then has to live with 24 images per second. Those who are content with Full HD or Ultra HD can enjoy extremely liquid 60 frames per second. The videos make a lot of difference and also support HDR for improved contrast and color depth.

Battery, connectors and speakers

The built-in battery has a capacity of 4,000 mAh. This means that the S21 is well below its siblings. In comparison, the S21+ features a 4,800 mAh battery and the Ultra even 5,000 mAh. This is also quite noticeable in practice, even if the performance offered is nevertheless convincing. In our YouTube endurance test with maximum brightness, the smartphone lasts just under 9 hours at a time. Most of them should get through the day without any problems and possibly the next one. Fast charging with 25 watts is supported. However, the user must already have the right power supply, because Samsung saves it on the current devices. Wireless charging is also possible with 15 watts.

The two loudspeakers support Dolby Atmos and convince with a good balanced sound. However, we would have liked a little more bass, which is a matter of taste. Even at higher volume, we notice only minimal distortion, if at all. When it comes to cellular standards and wireless connections, Samsung leaves nothing to be desired and, like a top model, has an integrated 5G module. In addition, the smartphone supports the current, faster WiFi standard WiFi 6E and Bluetooth and version 5.0. The latter is important when connecting headphones because a 3.5 mm jack is missing. If you like to use cable handsets, you need a USB-C adapter.

With the Samsung Galaxy S21, the manufacturer is presenting a device that really lives up to the name flagship. Samsung dispenses with groundbreaking innovations outside of design, but delivers convincing performance in every sub-sector. Visually, the new exterior gives us a lot of hope, the workmanship also leaves nothing to be desired. The display is beautifully sharp and scores with the adaptive 120-Hertz mode, the performance allows everyday tasks, but also gaming without any problems. The image quality of the triple camera also convinces us. The battery power might be a bit higher, but it’s enough to get through the day well. The fact that Samsung is saving the power supply and the jack connection is not nice in our opinion, but it is becoming more and more standard. Overall, we highly recommend the Galaxy S21, as it also makes a good figure in terms of price performance (street price approx. $ 749.99).

How much will the Samsung S21 cost?

The Galaxy S21 price starts at $799 / £769 / AU$1,249 for a version with 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. There’s also a 256GB and 8GB RAM variant, and that costs $849 / £819 / AU$1,349. The Galaxy S20 5G price started at $999 / £899 / AU$1,499 so the new phone is quite a bit cheaper.

Is the Samsung S21 better than S20?

The Samsung Galaxy S21 display is actually a downgrade from the Galaxy S20. Both phones have 6.2-inch displays, interrupted by punch-hole cut-outs at the top, 120Hz refresh rates, HDR10+, and in-display fingerprint scanners. However, the resolution of the S21 is lower than that of the S20.

Which is better S20 or S21?

The Review

Samsung Galaxy S21

3.8 Score

Due to the more compact design and better set antennas, the small S21 can even put itself in front of the more expensive S21 Ultra in the connect rating. Samsung has hit the bull’s eye with the S21 series and especially with the S21.
