1. Fear Street Part 1: 1994 (2021)
After a series of brutal slayings, a teen and her friends take on an evil force that’s plagued their notorious town for centuries.
With a back-story that’s to be explored in greater detail over the trilogy’s next two instalments, Fear Street: 1994 is an enjoyable first step.
2. The Ice Road (2021)
After a remote diamond mine collapses in the far northern regions of Canada, an ice driver leads an implausible rescue mission over a frozen ocean to save the lives of trapped miners despite thawing waters and a threat they never see coming.
Let me start off by stating that Liam Neeson is the greatest actor of all time. Punchline, after punchline, Liam delivered monotone emotional gut wrenchers that kept me in tears. Vin Diesel would be proud of the S tier acting that Liam neeson displayed in this genius of a movie.
Okay so let’s talk about the story. Ice roads, all black outfits; this movie has everything from incredible CGI, to high budget intellectual twists. Did I also mention that kenworth sponsored this movie? Kenworth X Liam Neeson? Did I die and go to heaven? The greatest trucking company and the greatest actor ever come together for a beautiful romantic comedy that is sure to make you feel like eating antifreeze after watching.
Check out Liam neeson in Ice Road starring Liam Neeson. Also, Lawrence fishburn was incredible. The 15 minutes of his screentime were arguably some of the greatest acting of this generation.
A group of truckers working against odds and time limit to deliver a wellhead through and ice road in order to save a bunch of trapped miners.
The story is original, entertaining and packed with actions, the actors performance is decent enough as in today’s standard.
The only minor problems are some of the physics like to pull the trucks up is kind of impossible, and the speed of cg which makes it look somewhat unrealistic. Perhaps the smaller production companies didn’t pay off the critics and reviewers enough like the big movie companies did is the reason why this is so much underrated.
Ignore the critics and bad reviews since a lot of them are just totally ridiculous, this is quite an entertaining movie that deserves much better ratings, a 2.8 is highly underrated, a 3.5 to 4 is fair, which is my actual rating and I am making it an 4 for the originality and to counter the 1 star fake reviewers and dishonest critics.
A father brings up his baby girl as a single dad after the unexpected death of his wife who died a day after their daughter’s birth.
Director Paul Weitz’s emotional comedy Fatherhood dropped on this special Fathers Day weekend, with the excellent Kevin Harte essaying the role of a recently widowed father of an infant.
Everything from him coming to terms with his wife’s passing to learning to care for his young baby girl is portrayed with so much grace, deft wit and charm that you are hooked from the onset.
Kevin Hart displays there he is so much more than your average funny man, excelling in the emotionally charged scenes, especially the exchanges with his daughter, portrayed by the instant show-stealer, Melody Hurd.
As expected, the comedy leaves you in splits, especially those unleashed by the insanely funny Lil Reid Howery, who excels as Hart’s best bud ‘Jordan’.
Fatherhood doesn’t break new ground or add anything fresh to the genre, yet it leaves you emotionally satisfied. A relatable coming-of-age comedy-drama where the dad matures emotionally, along with his child.
The perfect fathers day weekend watch. Recommended.
I enjoyed this movie so much I looked up reviews and am writing my own – which I have never done. I read the NYTimes review saying the lack of conflict left it feeling bland but I think that’s wildly wrong. The conflicts within the movie are subtle… but real.
Real life conflicts aren’t always intense and crazy, in fact most of the time they’re not. In his role Kevin Harts character experienced every day conflicts, the fears and doubts that come with being a father, and the struggles in his external life as a result of doing it alone.
He doubted himself, he struggled with a new relationship for fear his daughter was starting to take a second place by incidents that occurred, struggled to manage work, with his deceased wife’s family and more everyday REAL conflicts people face, that’s what to me made the movie so beautiful. Not only did Kevin Hart play the role incredibly well but the movie was incredibly deep if you really paid attention. It was a beautifully sad story and I think it was well and truly worth the watch and even brought tears to my eyes in a couple of occasions.
4. The Story of Mother’s Day
Great movie to watch! It was amazing to see young adults perform at a high level. Great dialogue. You will not be disappointed.
The eight lead student actors either attend or have attended school in Henderson County, including several current County High Students.
5. Wish Dragon (2021)
Wish Dragon is a 2021 Chinese-American computer-animated fantasy comedy film written and directed by Chris Appelhans.
What happens in Wish Dragon?
One day, he is given a teapot by an elderly man; from it emerges a dragon named Long, whose job as a wish dragon is to grant three wishes to whoever holds the teapot. Long also reveals that every wish dragon must serve ten masters in order to enter the Spirit world, and that Din is his 10th master.
Wish Dragon is the most magnificent movie, ever! The storyboard, voice-acting and design is unique in every single way and aspect. Unfortunately, I have seen multiple netizens who are constantly spamming about this movie as an “Aladdin rip-off”, which is completely untrue.
Wish Dragon brings a whole new experience about a certain magical dragon, who is trapped in a teapot and can grant 3 wishes, but with a very special backstory, you’ve never seen before.
I don’t want to spoil it, but those who have already watched the movie, would know what I mean. In fact, the only thing that “Wish Dragon” has inspired from “Aladdin” is the number of the wishes, and everything else is completely innovative and new.
There are several other references to different stories & movies as well, such as Cinderella, Midas and even My Little Pony (based on the moral of the story and how the main villain ended up, in this movie) and lot’s of Chinese myths that are featured in this movie, in the most attractive way (just like other great movies such as “Over the Moon” and “Nezha”).
Aside from the Chinese Traditions that are featured amazingly in this movie, it also shows us a brief history of Shanghai, and the 30th establishment of Pudong New Area in Shanghai, has transformed from an obsolete farmland into the epitome of the city’s modernization and a pioneer of China’s reform and opening-up.
Another advantage of this movie, is the comdy-gold story : the hilarious and yet clever jokes in this movie are rich! The only movie that was this much fun to watch is “Secret Magic Control Agency”. Both of these movies, made me laugh from both joy and emotions.
Speaking of emotions, the moral of this story is simply about “friendship vs money” but it emphasized on “platonic, intellectual and collective friendship” without any cheesy romance that are present in 99% of Disney movies (including Aladdin).
In fact, Disney never accomplished such a deep and yet funny plot, throughout its entire history. The fact that the famous actor & artist ; Jackie Chan, is one the producers of this movie explains why it’s enriched with martial arts and kong fu fights (which I personally loved).
The 3D design of this movie is excellently done, and even the slightest details are perfectly animated. The colours and art-designs are also outstanding. The characters are well designed. The motions and movements are absolutely amazing. It’s practically the best!
At the end, I want to express my utmost gratitude to everyone who worked on this masterpiece. “Wish Dragon”, along with “Secret Magic Control Agency”, are the only movies to which I gave a full 10/10 review so far and they both are the best movies, that I have watched. So, I recommend everyone to watch this movie and appreciate the hard work that has been put on it! Thank You.
Wish Dragon: Movie review by Jennifer Green, Common Sense Media: Charming characters, attractive settings, and universal messages balance a familiar storyline inspired by the same Chinese fable as Aladdin in this enjoyable animated film.
6. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
Ricky, a NASCAR racing sensation, is the number one racer in the world. After Jean beats him in a race and becomes the top racer, Ricky tries to regain his dominance.
Both vulgar and cheerful, like most other Will Ferrell movies, “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” is also slightly tricky.
This has to be my favorite Will Ferrell movies. No matter how many cable reruns I see it on, I always have to finish it. The movie is damn fun from beginning to end… and damn it’s quotable.
This movie came out 12 years ago and we still talk about it. How many movies can y’all say honestly do that?
This is the first time watching this after many years now and i cant believe i have not seen it sooner. It is very funny and a easy watch if you are bored at home. It is one of Will Ferrell best movie’s he has done so far!
Very good movie!👍 As well as I like Step Brothers, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is one of my other favorite Will Ferrell movies. I like the part where Ricky Bobby runs on the race track and says he is on fire. Best clip ever!
Loved every second of this film. Will Ferrell playing Ricky Bobby was outstanding, but this film can get weird sometimes, but I still find it really funny. As a NASCAR fan, I really enjoy this film a lot. This was just an incredible film with a lot of laughs with tears.
Absolutely hilarious! This is a hilarious movie and probably one of Will Ferrel’s best. When Will Ferrel and John C Reilly are in a movie together, it is going to be hilarious!
There has never been a good movie about NASCAR, but expecting Will Ferrell to break that streak is a fool’s errand in this film about the high-banked track >>.Full review << MOVIE REVIEW
7. Kung Fu Panda
When Po the Panda, a kung fu enthusiast, gets selected as the Dragon Warrior, he decides to team up with the Furious Five and destroy the evil forces that threaten the Valley of Peace.
Rudimentary plot and merely decent gags aside, this is the finest DreamWorks Animation effort since the first Shrek, chiefly because of its astonishing visuals and kinetic kung fu sequences. Full review >>.Full review << MOVIE REVIEW
Kung fu panda is definitely an animated classic in my book:
It has some memorable characters with their own personality, the voice acting is superb, especially with Po as Jack Black- probably the best voice actor in an anthropomorphic character ever.
The movie is visually stunning with its bizarre yet enticing fight scenes and beautiful cinematography.
The story is really well-paced and really well-executed. Has a deeper meaning towards the “chosen one” trope that really works as its overall theme of the story.
Genuinely really hilarious when it IS trying to be hilarious than other Dreamworks comedy films (except for probably Shrek 2)
The soundtrack of the movie is absolutely up there in terms of how catchy, beautiful, and extremely memorable it is.
It’s honestly a classic of a kid’s film and just stampedes over the other 3D animated films we get nowadays (such as a lot of illumination films and some other Pixar or Disney films) that fail to become intriguing for anyone, any age to enjoy.
Score: 8/10, the equivalent of that is a 4.5/5.
Oh, a loveable misfit alien who is on the run from his own alien race, takes shelter on planet Earth and befriends Tip, an adventurous young girl who is on a quest to find her displaced mother Lucy.
Plenty of creativity and artistry were lavished on “Home”‘s production, and the animation is flat-out beautiful. Full review >>.Full review << MOVIE REVIEW
One of the best dreamworks films I’ve ever seen! It stands out from all other animation films! DreamWorks took a little bit of special care into making this project! The music score by lorne balfe is 😘worthy.
From the catchy symphony in oh theme, to the slushious beat, to the intense climax theme he does a really good job mixing technical techno beats with a traditional classical music score and tbh it works amazing for this kind of film.
The animation is very simplistic but it combines simple with pure beauty and color.
It has very clever and gorgeous technical visuals. It shows emotion very beautifully and is extremely human, relatable, and very affecting. It shows us that are mistakes are what make us human and you shouldn’t judge or be mean.
Good pop music that is catchy. Sweet message that deepens through the film. Funny and memorable characters. Plot twist, fun action sequences and chase scenes.
Clever, fun, tear jerker, powerful, silly, entertaining, cool, colorful, simple, emotional experience, thrilling, heartwarming, funny, goofy, beautiful, sweet, cute, interesting, impressive, corny, sad, gorgeous, ambitious, adventurous, creative, wacky, imaginative, important, unique, kid friendly, hilarious, good acting, a classic, artistic, pure, sob inducing, good jokes, captivating, original, great music, action packed, great ending, good message, adorable, bright, brilliant, good looking, positive, eye popping, visual marvel, laugh out loud funny, a good lesson learned about empathy and friendship, a masterpiece, well made, amazing, very versatile, powerful performances, raw emotion, a animated film that hits just about everything emotion wise 1000%/10, a must see absolutely great!♥️♥️🥺🥺💕💕 DreamWorks you done good.✌
Jim Parsons, Rihanna, and Steve Martin all did a fantastic job voicing these characters. One of my favorite animated films for sure. There’s so much color and creativity.
I absolutely adore “Oh” He’s just so full of kindness, fun, and love And none of the other boovs like him and deep down he knows they don’t like him and that he doesn’t fit in but he still keeps trying. You can actually feel his emotion when he gets sad.
And then he runs into “Tip” who at this point hates boovs because they took her mom. I was thinking to myself how much she hits “Oh” in the movie ; I tried to count the other day when I was watching, it It was like five or six times she’s whooping his tail 🤣 I guess it was her way of showing that she’s “sad mad” for sure but ends up running into him and he fixes (transforms) her car and they end up going on this journey together to find “my mom.” And we also can’t forget about “pig” the cat. The relationship between pig and Oh is so cute as well.
One of my favorite parts is when they’re in the car and they’re making fun of Captain Smek and sharing things about their life with each other and then it shows Tip asleep in the backseat and Oh covers her up and He pets the Pig that’s sleeping as well and then he looks up in the sky and because of the rain he can see how the stars look different and he finally understands that painting that Tip ends up stealing.
And then when he looks at her in the mirror and turns the pinkest color he’s ever turned in the movie just showing how much he loves and cares for her. that was my favorite part. There’s lots of laughs, some sad parts but of course they turn into happiness. Their language is hilarious to me I’m not sure why this movie got such a bad review because it’s fantastic.
I’ve seen it so many times I watch it when I just want to feel good. So I would definitely recommend this movie if you just want to watch a feel-good movie that leaves you happy at the end. Oh and the music is phenomenal! Every single song in this movie is amazing. They got songs from Rihanna and from Jennifer Lopez. It’s worth watching it just for the music
9. Good on Paper
After years of putting her career ahead of love, stand-up comic Andrea Singer stumbles upon the perfect guy. On paper, Dennis checks all the boxes, but Andrea’s friend, Margot, is convinced he’s not all he appears to be.
What does looks good on paper mean? said to mean that something seems to be a good idea, plan, or argument when you read about it, but may not be good in reality.
Iliza Shlesinger and Margaret Cho make a very funny duo, and while this collaboration isn’t great cinema, it’s an amusing and well-paced hour and half of entertainment. Full review >>.Full review << MOVIE REVIEW
This was a surprisingly good show. It’s about how you kinda ignore small telltale signs that something might be wrong, when everything is going well in your life.
A very unique story that is told very well. I didn’t feel bored at any point in the movie, which was quite long, to be honest. There were a lot of really funny moments sprinkled throughout the film.
Overall, definitely something I can wholeheartedly recommend watching since it is DEFINITELY not a rom-com (which I thought it was, going into the film since it started out that way).
It’s not a Rom Com!! Shows how easy it is to want something so bad you don’t pay attention to warning signs or your best friend. It also shows how easy catfish and gaslight is in America.
Also nice dog at Facebook abs instafamous being a career here.
Andrea Singer and Cho was good in her role and it was written in an organic way. This was not overly dramatic like lifetime.
It just showed how it can happen so fast when you are in a certain place in your life. The beginning was good but wasn’t a fan of the last 25 min or how they chose to wrap it up.
The writing just seemed a little lazy at times. Some things are missing in the script and rushed. So many times she could have exposed him in court so many opportunities for iPhone to be the winner. The ending was really meh or just weird watch when you have time to kill.
I gave a 4 because of Andrea
I really enjoyed this movie.
I didn’t like how it follows Hollywoods quest to make all males jerks or incompetent. Only exception is if the guy is gay then he can be good guy. Just about every women in the show is strong and or intelligent.
The only guy that is shown favorably is the guy she goes on a date and ditches and he still falls into the incompetent Category as he orders a girly drink by mistake and is razzed by the protagonist.
The movie made me think of our current dating world and the difficulty that both sexs encounter.
Dennis (the guy) is a real jerk and it is difficult to feel sympathy for him as he is unredeemable.
However he does bring up interesting points about what do you do if your not a IV grad, 6ft tall with a 6 pack and have 6 digit salary. Are you suppose to work at that until you get it all. And what if your 5 ft 4 are you suppose die alone in your parents basement?
The reality is women date up and there is only 3 percent of the male population that is 6ft , 6 pack, 6 figure salary. And the majority of these guys dont want to settle. Why would they? They are tall good looking and rich and 90 percent of women are chasing them.
10. Terminator 2: Judgment Day
A terminator is sent on a mission to kill Sarah’s son, John Connor. However, another cyborg, who was once after Sarah’s life, has now been assigned to protect him.
When did Terminator 2 take place?
The year is 1995, after Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and Kyle Reese destroyed the original Terminator that was programmed to kill Sarah. Two men arrive in Los Angeles from the year 2029.
The film has been remastered into a cool new 4K format which only makes it better than before. Full review >>.Full review << MOVIE REVIEW
Hands down one of the greatest action movies ever made. Terminator 2 transcends all limits of a spectacular blockbuster and is undoubtedly a striking masterpiece.
If not for the obvious spoiler regarding the Terminator and the protector given out in the media, the film surely has one of the greatest plot twists ever, which works more or less because of what the prequel did.
Terminator 2, while as action-packed to the core as The Terminator, also adds more visual flair and wider appeal to it. It somehow does away with the indie feel the prequel had, and this transition is smoothly done. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s performance hits home and that’s when you realize he’s really “back.”
The visual effects in this film are extraordinary. Even if you keep aside the time it came out in, they are impressive even in general. No doubt it has influenced countless sci-fi action movies to follow, including its own sequels, but it has itself stood out as one of the greatest pieces in this genre.
This simple action filmmaking formula of blending a unique concept with stylish action sequences and state-of-the-art CGI is utilized to the fullest by director James Cameron, who has to be commended for his spectacular vision.
The whole cast and crew have to be similarly lauded for coming together to deliver a timeless action masterpiece that continues to hold up even today.
Viewed with the modern eye, Terminator 2 becomes even more special when you realize it’s a masterful combination of a modern, futuristic story with the classic, old-school 90’s action (big guns, bikes and explosions!).
Out of all movies I have seen in the series, this is easily the best one. No doubt how violent or intense the overall product is, there’s an unusual family flavor that calls for an all-age viewing. No matter how many movies try to replicate the style that made it an influential action piece, Terminator 2 is the original, outstanding gem and then some. Period.
Considered by many “Terminator” fans as the best in the franchise, “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” set the standard in bringing movies to a whole new level for its groundbreaking visual effects and spectacular action sequences. Like “The Terminator”, I’ve heard of this before, but it wasn’t until recently when I finally had the opportunity to see it and was pleasantly surprised.
Picking up after the events of the first, Skynet has sent a shape-shifting T-1000 (Robert Patrick) back to the year 1995 to kill a young John Connor (Edward Furlong), the future leader of the human resistance that fights to save mankind.
To prevent this, the resistance reprograms a T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and assigns it to protect him at all costs. Not only that, but Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) has been placed in a mental institution after having an obsession with the future on the war between man and machine.
Now it’s up to John and the T-800 to save Sarah and eradicate Cyberdyne Systems (responsible for the development of Skynet), as well as evade the menacing T-1000.
When it comes to choosing between the first and this one as the superior film in the series, that’d have to be a tough decision for me. Both of them have their fair share of awesome action scenes, memorable lines, likable characters, and suspenseful music.
The original is more about the heart and the lines always stick with me (along with some good action scenes), but this one manages to escalate that with so much intense action and backstory that it doesn’t seem to take a break. Literally every minute has you hanging on the edge of your seat and there’s hardly a dull moment.
A lot of people say that this is better and I can see why actually.
It expands upon the story and further dives into the characters we’ve come to know, the action scenes are amazing, and not to mention the revolutionary CGI for its time on the T-1000 (which still holds up to this day).
However, from my personal experience, I feel that the first has more rewatch value mainly because the story is simple and there’s more memorable scenes and dialogue (especially the chemistry between Sarah and Kyle Reese).
Overall, I still think that this is a great film and a definite must-see if you’re into Sci-Fi and Action. After nearly 30 years since it came out, it still holds up for what it achieved in making the movies we love bigger, better, and a true spectacle to look at.
